McCain, Immigration, and Politics

AP reports that John McCain has brought forward a new immigration bill with fellow Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Jon Kyl of Arizona as co-sponsors. McCain's support for the failed "comprehensive immigration bill" is believed to have cost him politically. Angela Kelley, deputy director of the National Immigration Forum, said of this, "It is fairly stunning they have gone from leaders on comprehensive reform legislation to lemmings running over the cliff."

The bill creates an electronic employment check system for employers, makes being in the country illegally a criminal misdemeanor and ups the penalties for re-entering after deportation and that illegal immigrants who commit a crime remain in jail until deported.

I'm not exactly sure what it is that is objectionable in this bill, illegal immigration is a self-defined crime and misdemeanor treatment is scarcely draconian. I can think of no reason employers are held responsible for hiring violations without a system of verification and less reason to encourage criminal behavior by foreigners or our domestic employers. Labor supply is the business of business, not immigration policy, if business finds labor wage rates rising there are perfectly legitimate methods of dealing with it. The US is not a dumping ground for foreign governments nor is it their safety valve for their corrupt plutocratic policies.

None of this makes me a Republican nor a John McCain supporter, but it also doesn't make me a partisan nut case opposition to any Republican legislation.

Mc Cain is running scared and rightfully so. He will say anything[ as in Supreme justice Roberts] but this again is ludicrous. Employers should be fined a goodly sum for hiring Illegals...not aliens but Illegals. Illegals should be deported and if found again a jail term and again deported. Tough to find a repug that would make business abide by the laws of the land.

McCain got the message as did Graham. Gordon Smith is getting in line, except for importing Iraqis.
That's not the real news though. I used to watch C-Span Washington Journal a lot but since going on the net, not so much, but the few times lately that I have listened I hear a lot of democrats calling in saying they have swithced to independent. The same with Lou Dobbs email.
The democrats who went lock step with the Uniter, on immigration, whcih includes all of the democratic presidential candidates, might get a real surprise as more people start understanding just how bad the invasion of this country is. Another 9 11 and I guarantee a back lash.

"Another 9 11 and I guarantee a back lash"
The back-lash you will see is a complete take-over of Bush and suspension of our constitution. There will be no election in 2008, if another 9/11 prevails. I keep harping on Executive order 51, and even with non-disclosure of the secret annexes, it opens the door to dictatorship..W J Clinton really opened the door on this theft of our rights, and Bush has expounded on it..

Your right Kiss, but Clinton failed to pick up our guns. America will either live or die. All the 1984 stuff is in place. If GWB doesn't become CZAR then a democrat might, becuase I guarantee that no future president will work to roll back the police state stuff since 9 11, with the exception of Ron Paul, maybe

Mike Gravel might be the same as Ron Paul..both are consttutionalist. About Gun Grabbing Clinton he did get multi clips banned and assault rifles banned...except for Ruger's semi-assault rifle. But it was a republican congress that kept him from getting 'em all. Beware of Hillary and Obama.

Yes but Clinton's gun ban was overturned, clips are legal again.
And of course I have a Ruger.
But what is an assualt rifle? Fully auto's were banned ( needed a federal stamp but stamps weren't issued) in 1934. The rate of fire on all legal weapons since 1934 is one projectile per trigger pull. Except for shot guns. You can have some real fun getting a banning bunny to describe an "assualt weapon" My m14 in Viet Nam didn't have a selctor. Guess even then I wasn't allowed to have an "assualt weapon".
An assualt weapon is a politcal term designed to scare people into voting democratic. What they really want is Australian type ban. Only single shots. Damn good weapon for police states.
