June 9, 2008 Baker City, OR Snow

Yes, it is June 9th at 5:00PM in Baker City, OR and that is snow falling, lots of snow falling. It is unseasonable, but not unseen.
Ten minutes later, the stuff is sticking.

The deck is brown, ordinarily. We're at 3500 ft. elv. at the foot of 10K ft. mountains so our weather can get pretty strange. Back east they're dealing with 100F. Some passes north of here are requiring chains, I 84 at Meacham. Forecast for the Blue Mtns is 6-12 inches of snow.

So if you've spent the day sweating take heart, you could have this.

here in Portland, Chuck, we had a lovely day. a lovely February day. grey, cold, windy, wet. and somehow, Portland had some of the best weather in the country.

this is Bush's fault.

It wasn't too bad most of the day here, then 5PM and this stuff. I'm working on a 12/12 roof and I don't need this.

I'm already 2wks behind thanks to the rain, I'm doing a tear off and people don't appreciate having leaks created when there were none.

Which explains why "global climate change" gets more traction than "global warming."

Take heart, Chuck. At least you've got enough snow to build a snowman.

And if you go to Timberline Lodge's website, you'll find that they're still running some of the lower lifts because of the weather!

(Normally you'll just see the Palmer running now, maybe the Magic Mile).

Our 8th grade students were up at Timberline for their promotion party on Monday night--blizzard conditions with wind gusts in the 50 mph range, temps in the mid-20s.

Nice February weather.
