Outrage Meter - Bent Needle

I don't know about all of you, but I'm finding my outrage meter spiking on a regular basis. This week the Bent Needle Award seems to be a tie between WI Gov Walker's union busting and the US House defunding Planned Parenthood. There has been plenty going on to peg that meter but those two just sort of stood out to me.

You all have some nominations? This stuff seems to be so constant as to run together and I can't tell if Haley Barbour and Forrest belong to this week or last ... and hell.

Well, I know it's not a big national political thing, but I'm pretty outraged about this: Dervaes family attempts to trademark "urban homestead"

Essentially, one family is trying to trademark a term that has been in common usage since the 70s. They even applied for (and received) their trademark after a book was published by someone else using the term.

To me, their actions are an attack on the entire sustainable/self-sufficiency movement, not to mention selfish as hell. Here's the reaction from the movement

Trademarks can be messy and espicially when the holders play complete assholes in regard to the term.

Awhile back the term "sunroof" used on car sites to describe the hole in the roof got hit by a manufacturer. Complete stupidity and got great mockery. Still, it was a trademark.
