What To Do, Now ?

Here's the deal, folks, I have neither seen nor heard national political news for a week nor have I followed it with any attention online. I also feel better for it. Not surprisingly that leaves very little subject matter for political blogging.

I know a lot of folks think the SOTU is an important event. I think it is political posturing of no import unless some bald-faced lie is promoted (think GWB uranium). I'm sorry if you think the President is a knight in shining armor, he isn't he's a politician and he is a politician with a plate full of problems. Some of those bigger ones are inherited and some are self-inflicted. I care to go into neither, but the SOTU is a political exercise in dealing with this and I gave it a miss.

I don't know what I'm going to do with this thing - a dozen of you give a damn. For the time being I'm taking a break. I may get interested again, or not. I'm tired of stupid attacks being made for little or no reason.

Just started lurking here recently, Chuck, but I like your take-no-crap approach and I hope you don't decide to quit this.

Won't bore you with how I first came here, suffice to say I now stop in regularly and have you tracked on my blogger account for the occasional new post. We occupy a narrow little niche, you and I. I am a life-long Liberal Democrat, tree hugger, former-Marine and all-around bon vivant. I appreciate and enjoy your posts and have recently also begun another period of disconnection from all things political (it seems to happen every decade or so). It just seems as though the patterns get all-to-predictable and therefore depressing even when the 'good guys' are in power. Now I will busy myself with the sportspage, the outdoors, my family and my stuff. In six months or a year I'll be back to thinking each of us can make a difference. In the meantime, I'll try not to injure anyone else with my choices and cast an informed ballot when appropriate. Good luck to you and buck up.

Yours has always been a voice of reason, Chuck, and the silencing of that voice is not a pleasant thing to contemplate. Have your vacation, get your rest and, if at all possible, return with a renewed sense of purpose; the progressive left needs more people like you, not fewer.

Hell Chuck, I don't blame you a bit. I'm feeling the same way, cut way back on my political reading. I'm sure things will get interesting in 6 or so months. Until then you can always throw up some car racing or Harley stuff. Even Gus is welcome. Cheers, realbtl.
